📖 About Ein Avdat
Ein Avdat is a spectacular desert canyon in the heart of the Negev, where the Zin Stream carved a deep gorge over millions of years, with waterfalls, clear pools, and surprisingly green vegetation in the heart of the arid desert. The canyon is near Sde Boker, home of David Ben-Gurion. The trail passes between white chalk cliffs tens of meters high, climbs ladders carved into the rock, and passes a tall waterfall and pools where fish and softshell turtles live. Ancient poplar trees grow along the stream. It is one of the most beautiful canyons in Israel — a place where you can clearly see how water creates a desert oasis. Ibex and eagles nest in the cliffs. The trail requires moderate fitness (ladders and stairs) but the reward is immense. The trail is one-way (lower entrance, upper exit) and takes about two hours. You must arrive in the morning, bring plenty of water, and arrange a vehicle or ride between the two entrances.
