תל עירני הוא תל עתיקות גדול מול קריית גת, מצפון לכביש 35. בעבר זוהה עם גת המקראית ובעקבות זאת נקרא "תל גת" וקיבוץ גת וקריית גת הסמוכות נקראו גם הן בשם גת המקראית. בעקבות חפירות נוספות סברו החוקרים שהתל איננו גת המקראית ושם התל שונה לתל עירני. לעומת זאת, גת הפלשתית זוהתה קרוב לוודאי בתל צפית. שטח התל כ-250 דונם ועיקרו תל גדול ונמוך ומעליו תל מצומצם וגבוה ששטחו כ-20 דונם.
