📖 About The Israel Museum
The Israel Museum is the national museum of the State of Israel and among the largest and richest in the world. Founded in 1965, it spreads over 80 hectares on the Hill of Remembrance in Jerusalem. It holds over 500,000 items — archaeological, artistic, folkloric, and Judaic — from 4,000 years of history. The most famous piece: the Dead Sea Scrolls — the oldest biblical manuscripts in the world, from 200 BCE to 100 CE. Discovered in the caves of Qumran in 1947, they are displayed in a cave-like hall, the Shrine of the Book. The architecture is itself an experience: the hall is built as a model of one of the jars in which the scrolls were found. Beyond the scrolls: a model of Jerusalem in the Second Temple period (1:50, 2,000 square meters), a vast archaeology wing with items from prehistoric man to the Byzantine period, an art wing with works by Picasso, Monet, Renoir, and Chagall, the Moroccan synagogue reconstructed from 1762, and Jewish art wings. The outdoor sculpture garden — the largest in the Middle East — features 100 sculptures by Rodin, Picasso, and others. An open-air theater hosts musical performances in summer. The museum is a full-day experience. Free guided tours begin at 12:00. Arrive at 10:00, start with the scrolls, and follow the tour.

מוזיאון ישראל הוא המוזיאון הגדול והחשוב בישראל. המוזיאון האנציקלופדי שוכן בקריית המוזיאונים בגבעת רם בירושלים והוא אחד המוזיאונים הגדולים במזרח התיכון. במוזיאון רשומים כחצי מיליון חפצי אמנות המשקפים את תרבויות העולם; מצויים בו אוספים בתחומי הארכאולוגיה, האתנוגרפיה, היודאיקה, האמנות הישראלית ואמנות העולם ותערוכות מתחלפות. אבי המוזיאון ומייסדו הוא טדי קולק, אז מנכ"ל משרד ראש הממשלה ולימים ראש עיריית ירושלים, שגם הביא למוזיאון תרומות של אוספים חשובים מהעולם. אדריכלי המוזיאון הם אל מנספלד ודורה גד. המוזיאון נפתח בחודש מאי 1965. המוזיאון פועל תחת חברה מעורבת בבעלות בחלקים שווים של ממשלת ישראל, עיריית ירושלים, הסוכנות היהודית, אקדמיה בצלאל, האוניברסיטה העברית, בית הנכות בצלאל וקרן היכל הספר.
