Carmel Market is the beating heart of old Tel Aviv — a central alley 500 meters long with over 200 stalls. It opened in 1920 to serve the new immigrants arriving in Tel Aviv, and it still keeps its folk character without losing its place on the hipster map. The main alley — Carmel Street — leads from the Carmel area to the sea. On both sides: excellent-quality vegetables and fruit, meat and fish, dried fruit, spices, olive oil, pickles, ice cream, and kitchenware. Trading starts at 7:00 and ends at 19:00. The restaurant areas around the market: Nahalat Binyamin Street has some of the best restaurants in the city. Levinsky Street offers authentic Mediterranean food. In the evening, Route 65 is the bar and club area for the young crowd. The place has grown in strength over the last decade: the produce market joined the fashionable explosion zone — concept stores of local fashion, and all the good coffee of Tel Aviv. In the evening, free of crowds, it is worth browsing the small shops.
