The Tower of David is a medieval citadel beside the Jaffa Gate, housing the Museum of the History of Jerusalem. The fortress itself is multicultural: building layers from the Hasmonean kings (200 BCE), Herod (40 BCE), the Byzantines, Crusaders, Ayyubids, Mamluks, and Ottomans. Every stone tells a story. The name Tower of David is not historical — the Crusaders gave it by mistake, thinking the central tower dated to King David (it does not — it is Herodian). But the name stuck. The museum inside the fortress is a modern experience: multimedia presentations, interactive displays, and reconstructions of different periods in Jerusalem. The tour begins in the inner courtyard and highlights 3,500 years of building layers. The highlights: the Herodian Tower — the source of the name. The biblical garden — plants that grew in Jerusalem in biblical times. Two films — one on the citys history. The special attraction: the Night Spectacular — a multimedia sound and light show in the evening (from 19:30 in summer), projecting biblical stories onto the ancient walls. A stunning experience. The tower is the roof of the wall — a 360-degree view of the Old City. You can see the Western Wall, Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Dome of the Rock, and at night the lights of the new city — one of the most beautiful views in the world.
