חורבת מצד (בערבית נקראת "ח'רבת אל-קצר", 'המצודה') שוכנת בהרי ירושלים על גבעה שלטת המתנשאת לגובה 530 מ' מעל פני הים, במרכז קו הרכס בו עוברת הדרך מאמאוס לכיוון ירושלים. בחפירות שנערכו באתר בין השנים 1980–1977 נחשף רצף התיישבותי ארוך החל מתקופת הברונזה המאוחרת ועד לתקופה הממלוכית והעות'מאנית.
