📖 About Bahai Gardens
The Bahai Gardens in Haifa are one of the most beautiful sites in Israel and a UNESCO World Heritage Site (since 2008). The gardens span 19 terraces along Mount Carmel — 1 km long with a 220-meter elevation difference — from the German Colony at the port to the city center. At the heart of the gardens stands the Shrine of the Bab, a magnificent golden-domed building that is one of the two holiest sites in the Bahai faith. The shrine holds the tomb of the Bab, the herald of the faith (1819-1850), and is a place of pilgrimage for millions of Bahais worldwide. The gardens are maintained with near-obsessive symmetry: every terrace is mirrored, the shrubs are endlessly trimmed, and the flower colors are changed seasonally. There are 19 terraces — symbolic of the Bab and his 18 first disciples. A sophisticated irrigation system tends 100,000 different plants, all through the volunteer work of Bahais from around the world. The view from the upper entrance (on Yefe Nof Street) is a 360-degree panorama of Haifa Bay, the German Colony, and the sea — one of the most photographed images in Israel. The gardens are open to the public for free, but entry to the middle (the shrine area) is only by guided tour, departing from the upper entrance at 9:00 and 11:00.

How long is the tour?
A guided tour is three hours. A self-guided short visit is an hour. Plan half a day for the whole circuit.
Is photography allowed?
Yes throughout the gardens. Inside the shrine area — not allowed.

Modest dress. In summer, robes are available at the entrance.
When do the tours depart?
9:00 and 11:00 every day except Mondays.
