📖 About The Dead Sea
The Dead Sea is the saltiest lake on Earth and one of the natural wonders of the Middle East. Located at the lowest point on the planet — about 430 meters below sea level — it drops 1.2 meters each year due to high evaporation. The water contains 34% salt (ten times the Mediterranean) — so much that you float effortlessly. But it is not only floating: Dead Sea mud contains 26 different minerals including magnesium, potassium, bromine, and iodine, renowned for being good for the skin, relieving psoriasis, and rejuvenating. The beaches — Mineral Beach, Bokek Beach, and others — offer organized facilities, freshwater showers, and full amenities. The surroundings are the Judean Desert — dramatic landscapes of rocky mountains, wild ibex, Nubian ibex, and special flora adapted to the extreme conditions. Two main tourism areas: the southern side (Ein Bokek) — 5-star hotels, world-leading spas, clean beaches; and the northern side (Kalia, Biankini) — simpler and less crowded. Near the Dead Sea: Ein Gedi (nature reserve with waterfalls), Masada (heritage site), Arad (interesting resort town), and Nahal David (a short hike). Important tip: do not stay in the water more than 20 minutes at a time, avoid getting it in your eyes, and shave before entering. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water afterwards, and use sunscreen — the sun here is extremely strong.

How do you do it best?
Early morning or late afternoon. Enter slowly. Float and get out. Mud. Shower. Short sun. Repeat 2-3 times.
How long can you stay in the water?
20 minutes maximum at a time. Then a break of at least half an hour with fresh water and plenty of shade.
What if salt gets in my eyes?
Fresh water immediately. It hurts a lot but is not dangerous if you rinse quickly.
Where is the best spa?
The hotel spas at Ein Bokek and Kalia are excellent. Hot springs at several hotels too.
Where to eat nearby?
Restaurants in the hotels, plus burger spots and cafes at Bokek and Kalia. Worth bringing a picnic too.
Where to sleep on a budget?
Kibbutz Ein Gedi (35 minutes), Arad (45 minutes), or free overnight camping near the public beaches.
